Benchmark: waste records, incentives and traceability
Research checked 15 October 2026. This compares relevant workflows, not company valuations or an audited product ranking. Vendor descriptions are evidence of advertised capabilities, not independent proof of accuracy, outcomes or superiority. No product accounts were purchased or field-tested. Unpublished pricing, licences and capabilities are unknown, not assumed absent.
Comparable approaches
| Project / alternative | What the primary source describes | Lesson for Taka Sats |
|---|---|---|
| Mr. Green Africa | Kenya-based collection integrated with informal workers, conversion to post-consumer recyclate and offtake relationships | Reliable buyers, material quality and predictable collector income matter as much as software |
| Plastic Bank | Certified collection branches record separated/weighed material and member exchanges | Clear accountable receiving points and participant procedures belong in the product/operating model |
| Plastic Bank methodology, July 2026 | Bonus payments, processor purchase receipts, chain of custody and uniquely assigned claims; subscription-backed funding | Distinguish material purchase from incentive bonus and give each supported claim an allocation history |
| CleanHub Track & Trace | Offline collection, weight slips, QR sources, sorting inventory and final-destination records | Close the chain beyond intake: stock, dispatch, counterparty acceptance and losses |
| CleanHub technology | Image checks including deduplication and evidence across collection, sorting and processing | Exact photo hashing is a baseline; near-duplicate assistance and physical custody address different risks |
| CleanHub Eddy announcement, March 2026 | A broader traceability platform with capture and structured imports for waste supply chains | Reusable evidence/reporting is already a competitive category; Bitcoin alone is insufficient differentiation |
| Empower Foundation / Jörð.tech | Collector inclusion, digital capture, premium incentives and supply-chain traceability | Build usable records and market access around local groups, not just transaction totals |
| OpenLitterMap | Open-source geotagged litter observations, with separate code/data licences | Community participation and reuse need clear public rights; litter observations are not certified weighed mass |
| KoboToolbox | Offline/web/Android collection, review and exports; self-hostable stack | A strong substitute when groups only need forms and evidence; Taka Sats must justify its extra operational cost |
| Paper register + scale receipts + spreadsheet | A low-tech operating alternative, not a researched vendor claim | Cheap and understandable; test whether Taka Sats measurably reduces reconciliation work and disputes |
Empower's earlier domain redirected to the Jörð.tech Foundation page when checked. Sources and branding change; review this comparison again before procurement or public competitive claims. Do not copy vendor certification badges or imply their audits apply to Taka Sats.
Capability comparison
“Advertised” below means described by the cited provider; “implemented” for Taka Sats means found in the reviewed code, not proven at field scale. A dash is not evaluated.
| Capability | Taka Sats now | Traceability providers above | OpenLitterMap | KoboToolbox |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weighed intake evidence | Implemented manual scale/photo + derived OCR | Advertised intake/custody workflows | Litter observations; different measurement | Configurable forms; no dedicated Taka payout policy |
| Offline field capture | Implemented queued collections; enrollment remains online | CleanHub advertises offline operation | Not evaluated | Documented offline forms/Android capture |
| Payment and exception separation | Implemented Lightning worker, roles and uncertain-send handling | Plastic Bank documents incentive payments; other details not evaluated | Not evaluated | Would need an integration |
| Physical lot/stock/downstream chain | Incomplete: period reconciliation, no lot lifecycle | CleanHub/Plastic Bank describe broader tracking | Not the same use case | Could collect forms; workflow must be designed |
| Portable group portfolio | Incomplete | Advertised partner/traceability outputs | Open data emphasis | Documented review/export |
| Independent operation | AGPL code/Compose; current installation friction and release lag audited | Self-host/code rights not established in this review | GPL code and ODbL data terms stated | Open source and self-hosting documented |
| Cross-community comparable impact | Not implemented | Provider-specific networks/methodologies; not interoperable by assumption | Shared geographic observations | Project reporting, not a waste-claim registry |
Evidence standards to learn from
UN-Habitat's Waste Wise Cities Tool separates generation, collection and management in controlled facilities. Taka Sats should not turn recorded intake into a recycled-mass claim. Verra's Plastic Program includes independent audit, quantification methodologies and registry controls. Software output is an input to such work, not a replacement or an automatic credit.
Strategic choice
Focus on a community-owned work record with evidence, fair payment controls and a portable portfolio. Do not claim unique technology: offline forms, traceability, incentives and cryptographic records already exist elsewhere. The opportunity is a useful combination that groups can inspect, operate and adapt without a franchise or central service requirement. Validate that opportunity with a second independent operator and actual report users before expanding into credits, route planning or global rankings.
